Michalis is a set and costume designer originally from Greece, currently
based in London. Athens is his hometown, where he took his first steps
into Theatre Arts. After he had completed a degree in Architectural
Design and Engineering, he joined the busy workshop of Vassilis Sakkis
where he learned all the secrets of set building, sculpting, backdrop
painting and prop making. He subsequently moved to London to do his
BA degree on Theatre Design at Rose Bruford College of Speech and
Drama.
Since his graduation in 2001 he has designed a diverse range of projects
ranging from classical theatre, touring, musicals and opera to site-specific
projects and dance. He has also undertaken work as Installation Artist,
Sculptor/Prop Maker and Set Builder.
Michalis aspiration for each individual project is to create imaginative,
beautifully crafted and emotionally affecting stage environments.
His criterion for spectacle is sensory enchantment aiming to evoke
simultaneously the human psyche and mind where their collaboration
would bring about a harmonious, unified understanding of the experience.
